Camp Course Philosophy

FAMI’s mandate is to provide, promote and encourage a learning environment for a community of musically oriented people.   We are very pleased to present an outstanding set of classes and instructors for the May and August camps.   Each camp is designed to provide five key things:

  1. Instrument-specific classes for the “core” acoustic instruments.
  2. Ensemble classes where students get a chance, as a group, to learn specific musical genres with a variety of instrumentation.
  3. Workshops (by instructors or volunteers) that provide “sampler” length instruction on a wide variety of topics and instruments.
  4. Facilitated and non-facilitated jams ranging in skill level from beginner to advanced to gain experience playing with others and just to have fun.
  5. A friendly and supportive atmosphere in which to relax, learn and enjoy.

In 2009 we are offering some new classes and as well as continuing many of the standard classes that form the core of FAMI instruction.   We believe these will appeal to a wide variety of skill levels, instrument types, and ages.

Class Lists, Descriptions and Instructors have been posted on the appropriate webpages.   This list is evolving depending on instructor availability.   Check back often as updates to the classes, descriptions and instructors will be posted as they are confirmed.
